Location: Austin, TX, 78701

Compensation: $80,000-85,000


The Position

The Finance Manager will oversee all financial and accounting operations. They will be responsible for entering transactions, budget management, financial analysis, payroll, forecasting, accounts payable, accounts receivable and financial reporting. The Finance Manager will guide financial decisions by updating, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures in line with GAAP principles. They will protect assets by updating, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls.

This is a hybrid position and will require regular physical presence in our office near the State Capitol.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Plan, direct and coordinate all accounting operational functions
  • Enter, code, and manage all financial data necessary for financial reporting
  • Maintain and balance general ledger
  • Prepare monthly and annual financial statements for management and Board decision making and presentations
  • Cash flow projections and monitoring
  • Manage the creation and monitoring of annual organizational and project/departmental budgets
  • Oversee the ongoing fiscal relationship and compliance between 501c3 and 501c4 organizations, including implementing monthly reimbursement of shared staff and overhead costs between the two organizations
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of (a) annual audit, (b) tax filings, and (c) insurance coverage
  • Work with Development team to ensure accurate bookkeeping and reconciliation with CRM, as well as compliance for restricted gifts
  • Grant tracking and monitoring
  • Act as organizational representative for finance function with accounting vendors and state and federal agencies
  • Evaluate accounting and internal control systems
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of accounting and other software, as needed
  • Identify, resolve and document accounting issues
  • Develop and monitor business performance metrics
  • Oversee regulatory reporting, including tax planning and compliance
  • Monitor accounts payable and receivable and ensure timely payment
  • Manage the preparation of payroll for personnel
  • Manage distribution of 1099’s and W-2’s
  • Ensure appropriate retention and deletion of financial records
  • Provide limited HR support in relation to payroll, such as completion of I-9s


Candidate Profile/Requirements

  • The successful candidate will have the majority of the following characteristics:
  • Demonstrated commitment to achieving full legal and lived equality for LGBTQ+ people in Texas
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent
  • 5 or more years’ experience in similar nonprofit roles
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Proactive and conscientious with strong time management skills
  • Ability to problem-solve, navigate complex situations and relationships, and take advantage of strategic opportunities
  • Previous experience using QuickBooks and donor/customer relations databases
  • Previous experience running payroll
  • Previous experience managing connected 501(c)3 and 501(c)4 organizations

  • Equality Texas Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that provides educational programming on LGBTQ+ issues and conducts campaigns to build public support for equal rights, and 
  • Equality Texas, a 501(c)4 organization that conducts direct lobbying and advocacy efforts to advance pro-LGBTQ+ legislation and candidates and to defeat anti-LGBTQ+ legislation.


Each organization is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors; these Boards have 15-25 members in total who represent a cross-section of LGBTQ+ community, business, and philanthropic leaders and allies. Equality Texas had combined (c)3 and (c)4 revenue of roughly $1.8 million in 2025.
