About

The Austin Chamber Music Center (ACMC) is a local nonprofit that creates chamber music experiences that connect, educate, and inspire our community. Founded in 1981 to offer a summer chamber music workshop for high school musicians, ACMC quickly expanded to include school-year classes and has continued to grow. The addition of a performance series expanded ACMC’s connection to the Austin community and transformed it into one of the premier chamber music organizations in the world. This transformation was recognized when ACMC was awarded the CMAcclaim award from Chamber Music America for its tremendous impact on the local community through chamber music, a testament to the organization’s success in pursuing its mission.

The Austin Chamber Music Center now offers numerous concert and education programs throughout the year, including:

  • The Concert Season is a series of engaging chamber music concerts through the fall and spring, including food and drink receptions and opportunities to chat with the performing artists.
  • A Charlie Brown Christmas features all your favorite tunes from the TV classic in an annual holiday concert.
  • The Austin Chamber Music Festival energizes the community every summer with events featuring the finest local and international chamber artists.
  • Annual Community Concerts include interactive programs in nursing/retirement homes, public schools, churches, and schools for the specially-abled.
  • The Academy offers chamber ensemble coaching in the fall and spring to youth and adults. Additional activities include masterclasses and formal performances.
  • Since partnering with McCallum Fine Arts Academy in 1997, ACMC has collaborated with numerous Austin-area schools to offer its intensive In-School Coaching program.
  • School Concert Tours present interactive chamber music experiences to Austin students in the fall and spring with leading artists.
  • The Summer Workshop provides opportunities for musicians, youth and adult, in a multi-week chamber music camp in July.
  • The nationwide Coltman Chamber Music Competition provides performance experience and expert commentary to advanced applicants. Winners are offered cash prizes and performance opportunities, including a broadcast on KMFA 89.5.

ACMC provides free or discounted access to many of its programs and events. To keep year-round programming accessible to the Austin community, the organization relies on the support of grants and individual donors to supplement income received from ticket sales and tuition.
