Description

Join the NGLCC Communities of Color Initiative’s (CoCi) Heritage Month Committee and the Austin LGBT Chamber of Commerce for a dynamic session honoring the legacy of Black innovation, entrepreneurship, and financial resilience. This presentation will connect historic contributions to the economic realities facing Black professionals and business owners today. Attendees will gain actionable strategies for building generational wealth, navigating business ownership, and leveraging tax and financial tools to support long-term economic empowerment. The session will also acknowledge intersectional experiences within the Black LGBTQ+ and allied community, offering practical insights to help foster sustainable success.

This session will be led by Helen Mathis (they/them), a fourth-generation accountant with over four decades of experience in public and private accounting. Specializing in tax planning, preparation, audits, and financial strategy, Helen brings a multigenerational perspective shaped by a legacy of Black women accountants. They are also the author of several books on accounting, entrepreneurship, and generational wealth, and are deeply committed to equipping individuals and businesses with the knowledge needed to build lasting financial stability.
