I Scream Social: A (Summer) Day at the Park

Description

Presented by Host Publications, I Scream Social’s A Day at the Park is a seasonal literary event that aims to deepen our friendships within the local writing community and raise funds for Host Publications to continue publishing radical poetry and fiction. Each season will feature a community meet-up, seasonally-appropriate crafts, a Host Publications book sale, and close out with a classic I Scream Social open mic and ice cream! 

This summer, we're dreaming of getting to know our I Scream Social community on a deeper level. In part because of the apocalypse (who here has sewing skills?), but also because we are in awe of the writers and book lovers in our community. In dreaming up summer activities, we're bringing a field day classic: tie dyeing with Claire and Sophia. For the truest indoor folks, a quiet writing circle in the sparky park building led by Annar. Closing out our park day, I Scream Social as you know and love it: an intersectional feminist open mic & free ice cream, with a bonus spin: an adult spelling bee! Lastly, we're also raising funds for our 501 (c)(3) publishing house, Host Publications, so we hope to entice you with our (used) small press book sale or inspire you to make a donation through this event page! Our (Summer) Park Day Schedule: 

✦ 11am - 4pm :: A (Used) Small Press Book Sale featuring gently used books and literary ephemera! The proceeds of this sale will support Host Publications to continue to publish radical poetry and fiction! 

✦ 11am - 12pm :: An I Scream Socialist Meetup w/ coffee & pastries A moment for our literary community to get to know each other better. A mingle, a mixer, a relaxed atmosphere to deepen our friendships over coffee & pastries. 

✦ 12pm - 2:30pm :: Tie Dye Session & Writing Circle ~ Bring your t-shirts, socks, totes, handkerchiefs & more. The I Scream Social team will be providing materials & guiding this summery tye dye journey! ~ Beneath the canopy, our team will also bring a few prompts & lead a quiet writing circle! 

✦ 2:30pm - 4pm :: Adult spelling bee & I Scream Social Open mic We’ll be rolling out the ice cream & introducing a spelling bee & a very special open mic. Spelling bee & open mic sign-ups begin at 2pm. Of course there will be a prize for the spelling bee winner! 

✦ This event is free to attend. If you're able, we would love for you to make a donation of any amount to support our press!
